Alderman Moore says.....

Mike,

If I understand you correctly, you would just like time to review the data. Should I wait to hear from you before I ask the City Council Zoning Committee Chairman to hold the proposed zoning changes in committee? Keep in mind, the proposed zoning change on Paulina is not one of the zoning changes slated to be heard on March 9th. I have already agreed to hold off on that until there is more community discussion. The other proposed zoning changes are downzonings, which are intended primarily to protect the single family housing stock.

Let me know what you would like me to do.

Joe

Guys, I don't see any reason to oppose the downzonings.

Hugh,
It's not that there is an objection to 'downzoning', it's simply that with the Paulina change on hold, we, NHNA, feel that we want to review the entire survey/data info collected NOH, that prompted these particular RT4 areas for change.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, for the LOVE of GOD I'm BEGGING you, please don't ask your Alderman to get in the way of a DOWNZONING. If ONE neighbor NOH takes him up on his offer "Let me know what you would like me to do" he will no doubt take the opportunity to demonstrate his responsiveness to his constituents, and in this case that would be unfortunate, potentially very unfortunate.

Not all zoning changes are alike. Show some discretion, divide the issue. There is a difference between an upzoning and a downzoning. If you don't understand that basic fact of zoning, I have failed you. Call if you need an explanation.

WHY, WHY, WHY? The downzonings referenced here are in R districts. There is no conceivable downside, and there is no conceivable reason for you to ask to delay them. Time is of the essence. The downzonings referenced here were on the maps Moore distributed in Sept. 2005. Today is March 2, 2006, and Moore wants to advance them next week. A few short weeks for you to "study" them might give a developer enough time to but a deal together. Let's do these and then ask him for more.

Hugh,
Please go to The North Howard Neighbors Association Web/Blog and read the 'statement of purpose, etc.', of the organization(www.NHNA.blogspot.com). Perhaps that will help you better understand our organization's intent/plan on approaching this and any other matters having direct impact and consequences in our NOH neighborhood. Your concern is understood and we appreciate you 'sage' advice.
p.s. As you see the site is not fully up and running but soon will be.

Mike, I'm not sure how these downzonings became a football between you me or betwen you and Joe, but whatever rationale you think you might have for holding them up, you are mistaken. You are stunting. If you or anyone else does anything to delay these downzonings, it will be a sad day for the community, and personally I will be decimated.

If Moore backed his van up on Howard St and started handing out turkeys (again), would you throw your body in the way, "Whoa, Joe, WHO SAID we wanted turkey? Perhaps we would prefer ham. Have you considered the threat of avian flu? By what process did you arrive at your turkey decision? Did you consult with the community? NHNA is the community, hear us roar."

The ability to make distinctions is the hallmark of intelligence. A downzoning is not the same as an upzoning. Please support the downzonings, and then let's start taalking about more.
